The Interesting Parallel with Little Mermaid and Tangaroa Infinity and his Exile [Spoiler up until Chapter 14]
Post Body

The three Generations of Little Mermaid

Contain spoilers from Chapter 13 and 14

Regarding the identity issue of the two Tangaroas and Wakans:

  • Shinya himself finds it hard to believe that his (and Wakan)'s form is due to the Loop's repetition: they act far too different from their "normal counterparts".
  • Wakan Infinity (whose true name is most likely Inyan, given that his backstory does overlap with said deity in more than one way) states that even though he and Wakan share the same soul, they both are different existences, meaning that even though Tangaroa and Tangaroa Infinity may share the same soul (or used to), they may not share the same existence like him. Notably, Babe Bunyan likes "normal" Wakan, but dislikes Wakan Infinity.
  • What tipped me off about Tangaroa Infinity the most in Chapter 13 was when Taishakuten(Daeva) is stated to look similar to Indra and possibly the real Taishakuten/Sakra of Shangri La (aka Asura Vemacitrin's son-in-laws), and that the whole "Baal's soul separated into two and reincarnated as Seth(Ash) in Aaru and Bael in Gehenna". Taking these two statements into consideration, I believe that they're hinting that Yam (of Canaan)'s soul also might've been separated and reincarnated as Tangaroa and Tangaroa Infinity.
  • Finally, his and Gurangatch's like and dislike are major hints for their world's Exile:
    • Isaac likes Tangaroa due to both of them sharing love for the sky (Kane's domain).
    • Gurangatch likes Teda due to Teda sharing the same role as Kane (God of Sun/Light). Likewise, him liking Q'ursha is due to one of Q'ursha masters being similar to Prometheus (Kane was the one who bring human to life).
  • And the most important part, Kane is the only one that is connected to Kanaloa the most, since one unspoken rule of being the player in the Game (for the initial Representatives at least, not the substitutes barring Surtr) is that the trophy has to be the one person you desire the most but unable to be with, with Temujin flats out explain that they all came to this world to find happiness with that one person, something that their world has denied them. Curiously enough, this rule also makes me feel that Daikoku/Okuninushi was supposed to be the player, not Amaterasu, since his deepest desire for happiness (and hidden desire for Susanoo) definitely outweighs hers.

Now on to Little Mermaid's parallel:

  • Going by "Looking up to My Teachers" AR, Mononobe is the one who made contract with Triton. Triton desired to become a teacher in the other world (The Prince/Eric's world), but he had to give up the role of All-Father (and also his role as the God/King of the Sea) through his "deal" with Dagon. For an added bonus, Mononobe is also Aladdin to Jinn's Genie, and Masumi Hayami to Christine's Maya Kitajima.
  • Assuming that Tangaroa Infinity's true name is Kanaloa and that his Exile is Kane (merged with the Rainbow Serpent due to both of them share overlapping Rule over sky, and the necessary to make him have dragon-trait), then Kanaloa also made a deal with (presumably) King Solomon in order to be with Kane (who was exiled from their world as it has no need for the sky, the one thing that will not sink into the ocean depth). While Kanaloa didn't give up his Role, he did give up his "voice"/soul in order to be with Kane (which translates to the Game refusing to let him meet the Protagonist/Kane barring a few very unusual circumstances due to him sharing the same name with Tangaroa, thanks to how their names are written in Hawaii Language).
  • And lastly, the current Tangaroa was also interested in the other world through the Protagonist, and gave up his Role as the Island Chief in order to leave for Tokyo. Again, King Solomon (the one who keeps the Game ongoing) is technically the one Tangaroa made deal with.

Lifewonders has proven again and again that their writers are inspired by various games/visual novels/anime/western animations (the entire game already has a lot of inspiration from Higurashi/Umineko/Fate: Extra CCC/FGO/Monster Rancher/Megaman and so on), so I wouldn't count it out for them to have planned ahead this far.
