how to go about people talking about their exs?

started talking to this guy today and the conversation flowed naturally and nicely. outta nowhere he dropped that he jus got out of a 4 year long relationship in December. even tho it was awhile ago, it still seems fresh to me (maybe bc they were together for so long). he keeps slightly bringing her up and i get it bc its fresh but wtf do i do?
