Hi everyone! I'm a trans woman from the USA and am currently looking to move to Sweden for the 2025 fall semester so I can go to uni for engineering and eventually gain citizenship. Im trying to find the most efficient way to move through this whole process and would love some help.
My mother's side is of Spanish descent and it's looking unlikely I can gain citizenship through there, but my dad's side is Italian and it's looking increasingly likely I can actually gain citizenship in Italy. Would it be better to apply for citizenship there first before getting a student visa and if so does anyone know how the Italian citizenship process affects taxes? Is it similar to America where I have to pay double taxes (unless I am able to discharge taxes under the tax relief stuff for dual citizenship)?
The benefits under my current understanding are: 1.) I can maybe get an EU bank account allowing me to save about 10-15% in currency conversion charges? 2.) It would give me free Uni 3.) It would potentially make my 5 years gaining a masters degree count towards citizenship
Is this all true? I believe the free Uni thing is guaranteed, but am a bit less sure about points 1 and 3.
