With the world population skyrocketing and the crime rate only increasing as various governments tightened their grip on the freedoms we take for granted the prisons began to fill up to well beyond their intended capacity. Of course, it was private companies (with generous grants of course) who provided a solution to this problem.

The latest in AI applications, the cutting edge of modular machinery, all of it came together to produce Perillus. The future of prisons.

Security levels and gender based segregation were done away with. Instead massive grey edifices of suffering were erected, each one lightly staffed and ran by an AI core that monitored its charges 24/7, ensuring each prisoner, no matter their crime, got the personal attention and rehabilitation their crimes deserved. The prisons themselves were simple. Each floor contained a thousand ten foot by ten foot cells, with some of the larger prisons being up to fifty stories tall. To begin with each cell was little more than bare concrete, but Perillus - using the in built machinery and hard light technology could alter each cell in moments to suit its occupant.

What this meant, in simple terms, was that each prisoner had their own private hell controlled by an AI that was designed to make them suffer for their crimes. Almost all prisoners served out their sentences strapped into devious machines, trapped in brutal bondage and kept to strict, exhausting schedules, each day a new cruelty from their AI Warden. Perillus makes sure that they never leave their cell until their sentence is up, feeding, cleaning and taking care of them in the brief lulls between punishment sessions.

Almost all - there were still guards after all. And in a situation with no outside oversight and a 'boss' that encourages their most perverted, sadistic desires there will be the unlucky few prisoners who earn the personal attention of a guard. Either way, anyone sent to the cube is in for nothing short of misery.
