How to permanently disable message pane

It drives me crazy that I cant figure out how to permanently disable the Message Pane. Each time I close Thunderbird and open it up again it is showing the message pane and I need to hit F8 to turn it off. I am using Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon Edition with Thunderbird 102.15.1 (64-bit) I also use OWL Extension in order to use it with Office 365. I tried to look in the config editor but was not able to find anything that looks related.
Does one of you know on how to disable it for good?
