TBSync (ActiveSync) not seeing email, but sees other items (Contacts etc...)

Hi, i am re-visiting TB again as i see TBSync has an ActiveSync plugin, we use MDaemon which has full ActiveSync and this plug in works, but doesnt seem to see email, only Calendar, Contacts and Tasks, am i missing a setting?
Also Why have they put a Microsoft product in the name (Exchange) when ActiveSync is an open protocol and used in other mail servers....
