For me it's seeing such an odd collection of 'stuff'. Things that are no longer manufactured, printed or in common circulation. Going to any other retail stores, everything available is brand new, topical/popular, and every store you go to you can pretty much anticipate what you're going to find in there after looking around for a few minutes. It's really exciting to go to a thrift store and find oddities and antiques, seeing the trends of decades ago that have faded into obscurity.
It also continually amazes me what some people essentially discard. One man's trash is truly another's treasure.
