I mean, the title says it all.
2 of the things ive heard to no end justifying centrism are "Our country is more divided than ever" and "nothing sides need to come together to come up with solutions."
Both of which are brain-dead takes AND historically innacurate.
Our country had a literal civil war. I'm pretty sure THAT'S when our country was divided more than ever. But even if we ignore THAT, do we forget the fact that our country stood and watched MLK and other Civil Rights Leaders be waterhosed, beaten, and KILLED for Simply fighting for the right to be treated like a fucking HUMAN BEING. Yes, our country is divided, but considering the GOP is practically an openly Fascist party, I'm fine with disagreeing with them at a fundemental level.
Most of the successes and social progress of our country was NOT a bipartisan success. Slavery? So Partisan a whole ass war was fought to end it. Gay marriage? SCOTUS was divided along Partisan lines. Obamacare? Partisan. Student debt relief? Partisan. Even "bipartisan" wins like the Civil Rights Act came during a time when the parties were shifting and came at the expense of the Democrats eventually losing the South (u know, racism).
Even most democratic policÃes are center-left to center at BEST. When centrists say the democrats have gone too far left, They're basically saying They're right wing but not far right.
Centrism is basically a poor excuse of "embarrassed right" people to ally themselves with the far-right while masquerading as "rational" people. Don't fall for that trick and please, for the love of GOD, vote if u can, and vote Blue.
