I'm not going to waste People's time with a lengthy and verbose preamble. Anyone with a working understanding of Dr. King beyond a high school education understands how watered-down and misrepresented the finer points of King's ideology are when Presented by mainstream media (the FBI Quote Tweeted him for crying out loud).
If anyone is interested in Learning some of King's views not often explored, there are no sources better than the man himself, and I have at least 2 must-reads:
"Letters from Birmingham Jail" is essentially King's refutation from "moderate" church leaders saying that they are on his side in spirit, but consider his method too "radical" and "direct." King not only speaks on the need for white communities to better educate themselves on the history and plight of the Black community, but warns of the dangers of "centrists," people acknowledging a problem but unwilling to take the necessary Steps to implement real solutions.
"Where Do We Go From Here?" is perhaps King's least-known, but most important literary work. In it, he speaks with an understanding that legislación such as the Civil Rights Act isn't the end, but the beginning of meaningful change in America. He speaks against Black Separatism, and white liberals thinking the struggle was done in 1965. He speaks of the need to combat poverty through government assistance and though he himself denies being a Communist or Socialist, he recognized the reality that the Free Market will never work in the interest of the common person on its own. Being the only written work of King's after the passing of the Civil Rights Act and his last book before his passing, It is an essential read for anyone to understand where King's mind was at in regards to the next stage of the struggle.
