When it came to the latest episode, Van's pro lockdown arguments hold more weight than Rachel's. The fact remains that we never really had a SERIOUS shutdown, unlike the rest of the developed world. Best thing we attempted was half-assed and generally ineffective.
Furthermore, the only reason why the "lockdown" had an impact in the economy comes from 2 things:
The government failed to take care of the citizenry beyond the stimulus, but at least the unemployment benefits kept people above water
The lack of mass immunity by unvaccinated sections of the population kept people from returning in full force
Besides, if people are truly worried about the economy, covid shutdowns are the least of the concerns. Worry about increasing the minimum wage. Worry about strengthening unions. Worry about student loan forgiveness. THOSE are the foundations of the problems troubling our economy.
