A wise person once said, "intellectualism is the enemy of authoritarianism. Authoritarian regimes rely on lack of logic to justify their existence. For they must convince their population that 1 1=5."
The reason for this is simple, authoritarian régimes, whether they're Stalinist Russia or the Puritanical communities of Early Colonial America, depend on a strict adherence to highly Specific ideologies to survive. As a consequence of this, any rational or academic criticism or nuance is outright rejected. One of the unintended Benefits of this is that because such anti-intellectual arguments rely almost exclusively on lógical fallacies, they tend to either Collapse before criticism or defeat themselves. Case-in-point, FOX News' recent "outrage" over Gen. Mark Milley's comments during a House Armed Service Committee hearing.
To those that are unfamiliar, Gen. Milley's comments during the hearing are a direct response to Rep. Matt Gaetz's questioning whether Critical Race Theory is being taught in our military. They essentially amount to 2 general points: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/mark-milley-critical-race-theory-congress-1188508/amp/
Studying Different ideologies and philosophies does not lead to radicalization. Furthermore, they are Important in developing a more well-rounded understanding of both the enemies a military might face and the state of the nation the military draws its recruits from.
CRT is a genuine means by which to analyze America's systemic racist history, from the Antebellum South, the Black Codes, Jim Crow, etc.
The second major point Gen. Milley made concerned the desire to understand the concept of "white rage." This phenomenon, coined by Emory Áfrican American Studies Professor Carol Anderson, has deep historical roots in America. From the creation of Slave Catching Patrols, the Klan, and Segregationists, to the Segregation Academies post-Brown decisión, and the recent outrage regarding acknowledging police brutality and the need for reparations; elements of white america seek to find systemic means by which to hinder and limit the Progess of non-white Americans. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/22243875/white-rage-white-nationalism
Now, the response from conservative American commentators, spearheaded by none other than FOX News, was predictably juvenile. Laura Ingram called for a "defunding of our military" and Tucker called Gen Milley "stupid" and a "pig" amongst other insults. Yet, in their response, these commentators betray their own side by showcasing how Hollow their arguments are. They resort to outrage, misinformation, and fear-mongering, all without offering any academic or nuanced counterarguments of their own. If THAT'S not White Outrage, then what is? https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill.com/policy/defense/560209-tucker-carlson-lashes-out-at-milley-not-just-a-pig-hes-stupid?amp
