It is no secret that Black communities have been historically disadvantaged within the United States. It is also no secret that every step towards racial justice in America has been met with resistance and backlash. This is why reparations are ESSENTIAL for America to move forward as a nation, because it is throughly disingenuous and lazy to look at the material conditions that are a result of generations' worth of racist laws and policies, and not see the need to create systems to uplift said communities.
Despite the fact that the struggle of Black inner-city communities is well-known, a lesser known struggle is that of Black and other minority Farmers. The fact remains that like their city-bound counterparts, rural black communities have experienced a long history of discrimination and neglect by the US government, significantly reducing their numbers over the decades. https://www.npr.org/2020/08/25/904284865/make-farmers-black-again-african-americans-fight-discrimination-to-own-farmland
Black farming is so out of the common discourse in American culture, that even conservative political commentators with large audiences feel no hesitation to mock their existence, much less their struggle. https://mobile.twitter.com/jasonscampbell/status/1371856007203336194?lang=en
However, a brief light of hope was ignited with the American Rescue Plan, which set aside roughly half of its $10 billion purposed for the agricultura sector, to help socially disadvantaged farmers, primarily Black Farmers and other Farmers of color. This includes, but is not limited to, debt forgiveness. Many would call this development The most impactful legislature in the aid of farmers of color in decades. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/03/08/reparations-black-farmers-stimulus/?outputType=amp
However, as it is often the case, white fragility and conservative judges, a marriage made in hell, reared their ugly heads in an attempt to stop the Benefits before they're even rolled out.
In Wisconsin, a Federal judge has, thus far, temporarily halted debt relief for farmers of color because the legislation is "discriminatory" and doesn't address "Specific" instances of injustice towards farmers of color. https://www.npr.org/2021/06/11/1005560226/u-s-farmers-of-color-were-about-to-get-loan-forgiveness-now-the-program-is-on-ho
Furthermore, a Florida Judge has ruled that the writing of the American Rescue Plan regarding the roughly $4.1 billion set aside for socially-disadvantaged farmers discriminated against white farmers, and is therefore unconstitutional. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/06/23/black-farmers-debt-relief-preliminary-injunction/?outputType=amp

While this doesn't seem to be a definite death-blow against relief for Black and other minority Farmers, it once again shines a light on the struggles of righting the wrongs of the past and doing right by the descendants of systemic racism.
