Considering starting a first-playthrough of Thief Gold and could use some general, spoiler-free tips & tricks

I've had all the old Thief games since forever and recently installed and set them up with TFix/T2Fix/SU to play through all of them, so I figure it couldn't hurt to ask for tips & tricks that I can use for the first game specifically. There might be a few I know of, having heard of Thief a bit, but I'm mostly unaware about them except for basic stuff the game teaches. And while I know some plot details, I want to go in mostly blind if I can.
