Hello, dear therians!
Not a therian, but a furry here. I just recently discovered what therianthropy was and decided to learn more about it.
What are some very harmful stereotypes, you have heard about your community that people keep repeating, without checking any facts?
Been a Therian since I was 4 years old Wolfkin here and I have heard these myths
Therians believe they only are the animal they portray. (false)
We scratch, bite, hiss, howl, bark, etc at random people to show our animal side. (false)
We all wear gear (masks, tail, ears etc) in public all the time. (not all of us but me I love wearing my ears and tail it became normal for everyone in my town and they love it)
We walk/run on all fours 24/7 even in public. (no some of us practice what's card quadrobics which is a very healthy exercise on all fours that includes running, jumping, walking, and cantering (for Horse Therians)
We don't use normal toilets only use the bathroom outside like our Theriotypes. ( extremely false) (we know we are human and would never do things like that as it is unsanitary and rude to others)
(Being a Wolf Therian I've heard this one a lot about us) We howl at every full moon and do rituals. (False, we sometimes do vocals but not in public and not like most try to portray)
I was extremely open about me being a Therian from a young age and still am so I have heard the works about us. Since I've been older most people enjoy learning about it and accept and love me for it. I even have a few people who I have given permission to use my Therioname rather than my real name only cause they love it and it makes me feel happy when they use her name.
Oh wow. I remember the extremely popular group who were honestly the first "Therians" to appear in the public eye. I have a grey wolf tattoo and it has blue eyes only because I have blue eyes and wanted to put a characteristic of my human self into the piece 🥰
It was a documentary type thing on YouTube and they were a bunch of goth high schoolers who called themselves the wolf pack (I think that's what the name was)

Yes that to! I have had so many people show me videos of people claiming to be therian but they don't know the history or full meaning behind it and they also portray us as if we are insane and off the wall mental. I have had to educate so many people.
