Bye for now
Post Body

I've been quite active on r/therian. Actually, more active than I'd like. I guess I have that little problem that I just can't help to comment if someone is wrong on the internet, or someone is a bit misguided and needs my help. But it's taking too much time and focus away from other things I'd actually rather do. Such as writing my novel, reading books and watching old science fiction shows, lol.

So, I'll stop following this sub. I'll still be on r/therianadult. My Swedish blog about therianthropy will stay up, although I hardly ever update it. You can still PM me.

But I've gotten tired of answering the same basic questions over and over again. So, here's some last advice from a wolf therian who awakened 20 years ago, and been a part of the therian community for 16 years:

  • Take your time! Getting to know yourself and learning what words you feel comfortable with is a long process, and there is no rush. Therianthropy is not a competition.
  • Learn biology, study animals. Nature is amazing. Borrow books at the library, visit museums, watch documentaries, read research papers. Even if you reach the conclusion that you aren't a therian, knowledge about wildlife is valuable in and of itself.
  • You don't have to tell anyone you're a therian if you don't want to. And even if you want to, you don't need to rush into it. Pro tip: if you tell someone in an undramatic way, kind of in a passing, you'll be less likely to get a dramatic response. Works for all kinds of "coming out", actually. Be casual, life isn't a Hollywood movie.
  • Therapists are your friends, but they usually have never heard of therianthropy. Your choice whether or not to bring it up. And no, you won't be locked up or forcibly medicated just for identifying non-physically as an animal.
  • If you experience something, and you're not sure if it's therianthropy or not, widen your scope and compare with other identities, subcultures and spiritual experiences. Here's a link to an old post where I list a bunch of other animal-related labels. But if you lean spiritual, you might also want to look at animism, paganism, shamanism.
  • Therianthropy is never a good excuse for bad behaviour. We have a responsibility to learn how to live in balance between our animal and human needs. Whether that means buying a chew toy so you don't bite people, or learning to postpone mental shifts, or spending weekends being yourself so that you can manage to keep on the human mask at school/work, so be it.
  • The internet is just the internet. Go out, spend time in nature, be yourself. Worry less about social media clout, ignore haters and cyberbullies. And similarly, don't judge people for things they cannot control - we can't chose who are (theriotype, gender, sexuality, disability), we can only control our actions. Be a good person, even if you don't identify as human.

Anyway, bye for now. Awoo~
