(Questions for both young therians and adults)
Personally, I do a lot of quad (I have unbearable pain because of it but I can't stop doing it) but I don't do or perhaps never will do disguises because i only want to wear them if I know other therians irl
So why don't you do it? For fear of judgment? Out of shame? Or because you don't like or it's not the things that bring you closest to your theriotype?
Okay, so:
- If any movement on all fours counts as "quads", I've done it sometimes. Not out in public, if I can help it. But I can't do it for long, because my joints are weak or something. My wrists can't take it, and my body gets tired. I don't practice it as a sport.
- Tails: I own some. Only faux fur, because I don't want to support the fur trade. I've worn them for costume parties and the like. But I don't wear them in public any more. Wearing tail doesn't help my species dysphoria either. It makes it worse, because wearing a "dead" tail just reminds me of what I'm missing.
- I do own a mask, I made one back in like... 2011? So it's not really in that style that is popular nowadays. While it looks good, it gets sweaty and in the way. A huge part of my canine behaviour is sniffing stuff, and using my mouth (biting, nibbling, licking). A mask gets in the way of that. So I've only worn it for short periods of time at costume parties or photos, and I wouldn't wear it while feeling wolfish. It's too fragile for rough-housing.
Sometimes people misinterpret me, and think I'm against "quads" and "gear". I'm not. I am just opposed to trends overall. I want people to explore all the different ways there is to explore their therianthropy, and not latch on to whatever is popular at the moment. About 15 years or so, I posted a thread about quadrobics (after finding a youtube video about it) on Werelist, because nobody else was talking about it then. Today, when a lot of young therians seem to think it's something mandatory, I try to post as much as possible about the things that aren't posted about as much nowadays. I strive to always show the other side, not the popular stuff.
For me, therianthropy isn't about what's visible and looks cool in a video. My life is a lot about finding moments to safely partake in those spontaneous animal urges. You won't see me pick up a phone and film when I lick my husband's face. And when I'm doing more planned "wolf activities", the whole point is to be in the moment. I'm not going to post on social media about all the cool deer poop I found on my walk.
