I’ve been seeing people sharing their frustration on this statement in honestly, not very good ways. People who say how horrible they feel and you should never want to be a therian, because it’s uncomfortable. And people who are annoyed with those saying it’s uncomfortable. Now, I’m not saying you can’t be upset, depressed, or experience any negative feeling about being a therian. It causes me stress as well sometimes. However, you’re making it seem like a horrible thing when people have wonderful experiences with it.
And for those who get irritated with people saying these things can also make it worse. I’ve seen people say how you need to essentially suck it up. This ignores people’s bad experiences and makes it seem like they’re just massive babies.
The root of the problem is the statement itself. People who say they want to be a therian really just want to do quads, wear gear, do vocals, etc. They want to do those because they think it looks fun, but they don’t realize those are separate from what being a therian actually is. So instead of saying how horrible being a therian is, educate them. Explain the differences and explain what being a therian really is.
Everyone’s experiences are valid. People are allowed to feel happy, sad, angry, or any emotion when it comes to being therian. Don’t tell others how to feel. Don’t tell them to not share their feelings. And don’t force feelings onto others.
It's annoying, because it shows that they think therianthropy is all of that fun stuff. Fun stuff you can do without being a therian. Or that therianthropy is like some kind of superpower, which it definitely isn't.
So yeah, when someone says "I wish I was a therian", I will tell them: no, you don't. Just be yourself instead of wishing you were someone else. Same thing when I hear straight women wishing they were queer, or the other way around, for that matter. Or when I had a guy friend say "I wish I had a lesbian friend, because they're so good at sports" (?!). It just showed his prejudice and that he had no idea what he was talking about. I of course told him that lesbians aren't magically better at sports than straight girls, lol.
This is why it's so important to be clear that anyone is allowed to run on all fours, wear animal-inspired accessories, mimic animals, like animals, feel connected to nature and so on. All of that cool fun stuff is just cool fun stuff. Do whatever you want, as long as you don't harm anyone. Therianthropy is when you have an animal species identity, and while you can live a happy, balanced life despite that, the feeling of being born in the wrong body or having weird, socially unacceptable instincts, is not something I think people actually wish for.
