Title basically lol. When I was younger (less than 14 years old) I refused to watch a movie or read a book that didn't involve animals. I loved Warriors, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, and Wolves of the Beyond and I remember losing interest in the Spirit Animals series because it focused too much on the human characters (in my eyes). Numerous times I'd buy a book with an animal on the cover and never get past the first 20 pages because there were no animal protagonists (I'm looking at you, Chomp). I think the first human-centered book I decided to seek out was Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid, which brought me to realize that books with human protagonists weren't that bad.
Nowadays I describe my taste in media as "If it's animated or queer you have my attention" but I still have a preference for stories that feature animals, even if the animals are just animatronics lol. Can anyone else relate?
While I consumed plenty of media focusing on human characters, I really enjoyed a lot of stories with animals and shapeshifters when younger. My favourite movies as a kid were The Lion King and Watership Down, for instance. Also, the Australian film Napoleon (1995) about a retriever puppy who wants to meet dingoes really struck a chord with me somehow. And Fluke (1995), about a man reincarnated as a dog. There were a lot of live action films with talking animals in the 90s, wasn't there?
When I grew older, I read a lot of the Animorphs books.
And when I started to "awaken" in my teens, I sought out films and books about werewolves.

Be warned though: I haven't watched Fluke since I was just a kid, and according to reviews online, it's probably not as good as I remember it to be. But I was young enough that concepts such as reincarnation was still new and exotic in my mind, so it left this impression.
If you liked the old Watership Down movie, maybe check out Plague Dogs and Felidae too.
