Suggestions for areas of study:
Post Body

Researching therianthropy shouldn't only be about reading about therianthropy itself on sites and videos created by the community. Studying other fields can help us understand some therianthropic experiences.

Here are some suggestions on what to look into:

  • Biology, especially zoology, ethology and phylogeny. Of course. I've posted a lot about this on this subreddit.
  • Psychology, I think topics such as identity, developmental psychology, clinical lycanthropy and sympathy/empathy are relevant for therians.
  • Sociology, such as to understand communities, how to fit in with humans, and the history of therian-related identities.
  • Neurology, I think there might be stuff relevant to understanding shifts (especially phantom limbs) here. Body schema disorders, mirror neurons, autism, read up about it all!
  • Religious studies and philosophy. Myths about shapeshifters are common in many cultures, and of interest for therians. Questions about identity, personal truth and individualism are often handled in philosophy.
  • Transhumanism. A philosophical movement arguing for enhancing the human body by artificial means, such as bionic implants and genetic engineering. Could be interesting for those wanting modify their bodies to be more like their theriotype's.

What more can you come to think of?
