Ok weird title, I promise this is on topic, read deeper.
I do IVs and have troches for at home breakthrough when I'm having a depressive day. My troches were however prescribed by a pain doctor (long story) for my chronic pain conditions. And I was prescribed twice a day. However due to the effects and side effects I'm rather non functional even with troches, and if I was taking twice a day every day I would be more of a zombie than a functional adult. (Though some will argue I'm not a functional adult at all but lets leave my ex out of this :P )
Anyways I take the troches intermittently as needed.
Now when taking the troches at home its often a question what to have on the TV as I need something that helps the meds. I used to do a lot of food shows while on the ket, as its a positive type of show and its hard not to see smiling faces when watching people shovel yummy food into their faces. However due to living with my mother sometimes I need to have other shows on with roommate rules.
Last week on Friday I took a troche and we put on a show called Fire Country. I like the show and consider it the second best new show of season. I was watching it while the troche was working and the show seemed to have a lot of positive effects on my mood and the effects of the troche. The show without running it has situational horror, adrenaline spots, feel good moments and hope spots, and some mystery elements, with a healthy dose of drama. I will say when altered by the ket I just float along watching the show and being in the moment, instead of trying to solve the puzzles or other plot points. I have to rewind it often cause I miss stuff. But still it seemed to have a very good effect on my session. Based on the effects of the ketamine I joked with my mother that I should watch it on ketamine every week.
This week on Friday I had gone out to dinner with some friends and well my broken coccyx wasn't having any of it. I was in massive pain, and totally miserable. I decided to take a troche for the pain management. Since it was Friday we knew we were gonna try Fire Country again. I held the troche while my mother watched her news program until it started to kick in and I could feel the telltale tingling on my lips and mouth. At that point we changed to Fire Country on the tape so we could speed through the commercials. Again watching the show I had a lot of positive effects and a force multiplier on my session. Again I was just floating along watching the show being in the moment and only surface following. But I got a massive amount of positive feelings from watching the show.
I think that the joke will be more of a truth for me. Friday nights I'm taking a troche and watching the show. It seems to do wonders for my mental state. I now wondering if the show would be useful or helpful for anyone else doing at home therapy. I'm also considering trying to watch a rerun of it on my phone during my next IV session. Not sure that will work with IV levels of the medicine.
But in my mind I kinda feel like the NIH should do a double blind study having people watch the show or a control show? while taking ketamine doses and see if this show is a magic bullet for force multiplier for ketamine therapy. Maybe it works on other people maybe the show is just perfect for me? Who knows. But when you find something easy like this it feels good to share and hope your experience can help someone else.
I know we normally talk about music and playlists for ketamine therapy but I'm wondering and hoping that other people might have shows or things that work as a magic bullet for them while doing their therapy.
Thanks for listening to my rambles everyone.
