I have a near pathological fixation on amphetamine synthesis. Particularly methamphetamine. I attempted a birch reaction a few years ago, but then it was just following a recipe, I didn’t bother learning why I was doing what I was doing, and the results were… well… not great. I’m still alive to talk about it, though, and I learned a lot I’d still love to complete a birch reaction someday, though, even a dry run. If nothing else, than to see the pretty blue solvated electrons. What’s caught my eye recently, though, is the hidriodic acid method. It can’t really be as simple as refluxing iodine, red phosphorus, and pseudo can it? I start my O Chem series this year, but I don’t think they teach clandestine chemistry 😂 and knowledge, advice, and first hand accounts are certainly appreciated. Go easy on me, I’m new.
Edit: Title should say hidriodic acid method of D-meth synthesis 🤦🏻♂️
