Global Events confusion

Hey, Guys I decided to come back to the division after patch 1.7 and saw that these Global Events were introduced. I was wondering what they were, especially after seeing other players with gas masks on, so i decided to play every day until the next GE was announced and low and behold; when i checked the game 2 days aho it said 1d 17hr and something mins. I was excited as fuck. Came on today excited and it say offline? Why arent the GEs live? Did i seriously miss some sort of 6-hour thing?
