That key element is the in-depth look of grandmothers doing their best to hold the household together
Bodie and his relationship with his grandma (as well as Omar and his) would've been the perfect storyline to draw out that dynamic (Bodie was troublesome, but his principles separated him from other hustlers in the organization)
I only bring this up because a number of people had complained that The Wire didn't have strong women characters in the community
If you're familiar with Black families in urban areas, you'll know that a lot of grandmothers became primary caretakers as the hood slowly became a matriarchy due to the absence of fathers during the drug epidemic
