My parents and I are going to London in roughly one month and we intend to see three musicals or shows. I'd appreciate pointers on what we might appreciate, given the immense number of shows that are currently on (many of which I'd never heard of).
When I was a kid, we regularly went to London to see shows, and we have seen many at home too (in Sweden). That means that we have seen all the "classics."
My parents (who are in their seventies) skew traditional in terms of what they are likely to appreciate. They instinctively asked "does Lloyd Webber have any new musicals playing in the West End?" I have a feeling that they might appreciate Abba Voyage.
I'm a generation younger (in my fourties), and not as traditional. I am a huge fan of Hamilton, and nothing will stop me from seeing it. (I have listened to the soundtrack hundreds of time and seen the Disney Broadway version four times -- and I normally never watch things twice.) I tried to get my parents to see it on Disney , but they absolutely hated it (probably as much as I love it).
I'm also fond of Six, which I have listened to countless times. There's no way I can get my parents to see Hamilton live, but I think they just might appreciate Six.
So my thinking is that I'll send them on their way to see Abba Voyage while I attend a showing of Hamilton. (I like Abba, even the latest album, but a "live" show without the main performers? No thanks.) Then -- hopefully -- we can all enjoy Six together.
There's one more night, and I have no clue what we should see. They have seen Sunset Boulevard years ago (and Phantom, the Lion King, Mamma Mia, Starlight Express and Cabaret).
I'd appreciate pointers on what we could enjoy all three of us, together. Thanks!
