It implies heās suspicious which would then cause him to use his vamp hearing and take a listen for himself. Not just rely on the word of the untrustworthy companion who is only with him because heās forced him to be.
I just rewatched the scene because this thread had me thinking Iād seen something that wasnāt there and just before they open the door Elena is sat on the bed, back against the wall reading, when they walk in and klaus asks if anyone is there he walks straight over to where Elena was sat and strokes his fingers over the exact same spot. Didnāt notice that before. He clearly knew something was amiss.
I mean you can disagree but youāre disagreeing with the well established character traits of klaus.
Klaus always feared everyone around him doing him dirty. That never turned off. Heās very open about this.
Are we both talking about klaus? The original who would dagger his own siblings at the mere mention of them breaking his trust? Mr āI donāt trust anyoneā? That klaus?
Heās 1000 year old vampire with a guy he doesnāt trust. Do you seriously think he wouldnāt then listen for himself? Why would he ask if he didnāt suspect anything?
He was though. When they open the door he asks Stefan if anyone else is there. You wouldnāt ask that and then not use your vamp hearing to listen closely.
He asks if anyone else is there when they open the door. I think he knew. Iām guessing he assumed Damon was either there, heās not at all surprised when Damon walks into the bar a little while later, he actually smiles like he knew it was coming.

But he was listening because when Stefan opens the door he asks if anyone else is there. He must have heard something to say that.
