I’m rewatching TVD for the 4th time in a long time too. I’m realizing that Matt Donovan in SEASON 1 ONLY is very underrated. I understand people end up hating him because me too 🙋♀️. Matt Donovan in this season portrays an innocent character. I felt terrible when he found out Vicki was dead. I wish he was still innocent in a way for the rest of the seasons. And I’m not sure if you would even call it innocent. He kinda just felt like a true character? I’m not sure how to describe it. Help a girl out.
In season one you can genuinely see a teenage boy behaving exactly as Matt does, he plays confused, grieving teen perfectly. The issue I have is they almost never let him move on from that, in season 8 he’s still behaving like an angry teen. They forgot to age him up. I’d have like to see him show real bitterness. Not making a point of saying he doesn’t support whatever’s happening and then helping anyway.
