Obviously there are plenty of differences. However, I'm confused of why when they did the same exact thing I felt differently towards them.

I'm talking about kicking out the main characters from their home. Marcel drove the originals out of New Orleans and Matt drove vampires out of Mystic Falls. Yet, I don't feel the same measure of annoyance between them. Marcel I feel a bit annoyed but mostly sympathetic, considering what happened. Matt? I understand, and believe it's somewhat justified, yet I want to kick his ass.

Maybe it's because when Matt did it he was much closer to massively extreme hatred and distrust towards vampires? I understand why, but still something about Matt doing it fuels my annoyance while Marcel barely gets a reaction.

So maybe the lot of you can help, what is the difference between these two?
