A large set of updates was pushed describing how GO Battle League will work tonight. Let's dive in!

Sidebar: Weezing, Koffing, and Gastly all had their models updated tonight which appear to update their smoke effects from what we can tell. Also, the Minccino research day quests were removed but we are sure those will be back.

Analysis

We are going to try to make sense of the updates and give our best guesses of what everything means, but of course, take our interpretation with a grain of salt. Full code snippets are below for all the juicy details!

• As we suspected, there looks like a new GO Battle Hub menu which has buttons and access to your stats, rankings, season information, VS Seeker charging status, and of course buttons to jump in and start battling.
• There is a small Tutorial explaining what GO Battle Hub is. It seems very short at the moment, just saying battle other Trainers to improve your rank and rewards and rank will be reset every season.
• Seasons
  • Several things describing when the season will end, how many days are left, and even a notification reminding you a week before when the season ends before everything resets.
  • Seasons are tracked in days and hours, so it appears a season wouldn't last for months.
  • It appears you claim your rewards at the end of the season, so you must wait for the season to end before claiming anything. Unclear if there is also battle rewards and these season rewards are separate, however.
  • There is a separate rank and rating that gets logged and reported at the end of the season for how well you did.
  • There seems to be a menu/report at the end of each season with your results and performance for the past season.
  • You have to confirm resetting your rank and rating at the end of the report. This doesn't appear to be optional.
• The following stats are tracked:
  • Number of Battles
  • Number of Friends Battled
  • Stardust Earned (does this imply we will earn a lot?)
  • Longest Winning Streak
  • Current Winning Streak
  • Number of Wins
• Battling
  • Battling is separated by free and paid battles and each appears to have different rewards.
  • When joining a battle, you can choose a reward tier - perhaps this just means free vs paid.
  • You can still battle people via QR code so in person battles through GO League are possible.
    • Update: As pointed out, this could also just be where they are putting the existing nearby battle feature and you don't actually do League battles with QR.
  • Battles are a set (perhaps best of 3, that is unclear) and your number of wins are logged per set; this is also logged in the journal.
  • You can continue to the next battle within a set and view your current battle progress in the set (1/3 battles played for example).
  • There is a hard limit on how many battles you can do in a day, regardless of paid or free. Unclear what that limit is.
• Teams
  • There is a note about restricted teams, which prevent certain Pokemon from being used. Perhaps related to your rank (see below).
  • Certain Pokemon are available only at certain ranks, so your team selection is limited by which rank you are at.
  • You will unlock more Pokemon as you progress higher in your rankings.
  • You have to have unique Pokemon in your team.
• VS Seeker and Premium Battle Passes
  • As found previously, you can either charge your VS Seeker or buy Premium Battle Passes to battle.
  • Premium Battle Passes are the same as Raid Passes now, so one pass gets you either a raid or a GO Battle League match.
  • You will get a notification when the Seeker is charged and you can battle.
  • You will be alerted to how many matches you can use with your Seeker, so it appears you can stack your Seeker's charges for several battles. How many is unclear.
  • When you enter the free version, it will tell you how many matches you have left to be able to battle with it before you have to walk more or pay.
  • It appears you can pay to fill your Seeker and battle right away, this might be different than premium battle passes by the looks of it.

That's our take on it. Very exciting stuff coming, and to be honest, a lot of this just reinforces what we have found in the APK as we've had a vague idea at this but these updates make it much more obvious what we should be expecting.
