How does Niantic respond to the player base? (Ingress players do you have any ideas?)

If anyone has experience with Ingress, how did Niantic respond to the player base's suggestions or concerns? Also, does Ingress have some sort of stat tracker? I'd love to see what the #1 most caught pokemon is, or the #1 Gym placed pokemon, etc... Just curious if Ingress did things like that.
