I get it - this will be very unpopular opinion given the amounts of post hating on evo cup and especially vigoroth. And I don't disagree - the meta is limited to few pokemon and vigoroth is literally everywhere (~70% usage based on my personal experience during go battle day).
And before I get into what I think are the positives, let me preface it by saying I climbed from 2740 to 3090 in 80 battles. If I had this kind of success in fighting cup, I'd probably wouldn't hate it either - so I understand I have a biased opinion here. But anyway, here we go:
- I saw some post / comments mentioning evolution cup is RPS hell. I couldn't disagree more - in my experience almost every pokemon has play into almost everything else in the meta. Alignment matters much less than any cup I've played in a long time, energy and shield management seems to be much more important.
- While meta is fairly small, it's not quite as bad as some mono type and what I consider a big plus is that almost every pokemon in the meta is fairly cheap and most of them were featured within last few days - weeks - months. There are no big xl, raid or egg locked pokemon or anything else like that.
- Adding to the previous point, not only is the meta very cheap, but it's also not very bulky (let's ignore chansey for a minute). First of all this is great because we have go battle day today, but secondly, more importantly to me, less bulky pokemon make the game much more dynamic and enjoyable to me.
All in all, I'm not saying this is a perfect cup and I do agree removing vigoroth (and chansey) would most likely make the cup much better. But if you haven't tried this cup yet because of all the bad rep it gets - I strongly recommend trying it out for yourself. As I said in the beginning, vigoroth is everywhere - but vigoroth can't win the games on his own - he doesn't have any strong answers, but he does not dominate any matchups either. And apart from that I found this meta to be very fast, dynamic, and rewarding for good plays (counting, catching and swapping around and so on).
