Nearing the end of my third reread of TSH in an embarrassingly short amount of time and want to know how anyone has moved on from this book. I tried (unknowingly) If We Were Villains and was almost offended. Tartt's recommendation of The Song of Achilles also steered me wrong, as I could never really get into the writing style which I found to be quite flat and uninteresting. Currently trekking through The Goldfinch which I'm really enjoying, but I feel it's a little heavier than TSH and miss little things like Richard and Judy doing coke in a Burger King parking lot.
I just really love the overall ridiculousness of TSH that works alongside the darker elements, and want something that similarly has a gorgeous style along with a humour. I also love how 'zoomed in' it gets on events and characters, detailing the smallest actions and quips that really draw you into a scene, as opposed to novels that have more of an 'overview' style. The ensemble cast and intertwining relationships were another highlight. Hope I haven't gotten too picky lol, plot could be anything though I did love the New England setting. Any recommendations are appreciated!

A Little Life is the most beautiful and tragic books I’ve ever read. I actually heard of SH from a Goodreads recommendation from A Little Life.
