I don't know if many will agree but I will try my best here. Also, to preface, I am currently at episode 8 of season 5.I think Nolan's Rookie (Officer Juarez) is just straight up annoying and should have been fired on day 2.
I get Nolan is all about second chances but this character feels very flat and poorly written, not to mention the dumbass actions and mistakes she keeps on making on repeat.I LOVE all the strong and diverse female characters in this show but all I see from Officer Juarez is straight up disobedience, making countless mistakes and messing up only for her to end up being "right" an barerly getting reprimended.I mean she straight up stopped a car unlawfully, then messed up the investigation because the stop was unlawful and thus the evidence was too and then full on bolts after the guy without calling it out or asking for backup or anything. Not to mention her solving a case with a dream....
I am also personally not a fan of the whole aura and astrology thing and I dislike how it is basically forced down Nolan (and thus the viewer's) throat.(Believe what you want, I won't judge. I just find it personally annoying.)
Besides her flaws in her first few episodes I feel like she is just filler. Someone to serve as a bouncing board for Nolan to interact with and otherwise be completely useless and ineffective to any plot or story.
Just to draw a quick comparrison, Detective Lopez is a strong female character who works well with any other character of the cast in any given situation. She is strong on her own and her character arc is very well written. Even in her current role, with little more place to grow into, she still carries her subplots well. She is a straight up badass, no questions asked and she is always interesting and adds to any scene she is in.
I LOVE the rookie and officer Nolan but this one character just annoys me to no end. That's my personal opinion, thank you for reading :)
