Wait, what? I'm not posting a quiz?
I hinted in the Sunday thread about a little story from last Friday about being in a bit of a jam on the way to stay with parents for the weekend for the FIA WEC 6 hours at Silverstone, and after some time spent writing it up over the last few days here it is!
And as I'm in a good mood I'll make it a little more interesting!
And yes I know I'm probably breaking some sodding syllable limit/rule...
T'was an exciting April's day,
To Silverstone, I was on my way.
Portsmouth to Reading,
To Wantage I was heading,
But is it ever that easy, nay!
Upon my arrival there would be waiting,
My mum and my stepdad, they had been stating.
And at the new house, of course there's the cat,
After six months away still apparently fat,
Though you'd never find one of us hating.
After three long trains I alighted at Didcot,
Though perusing the timetable I was stuck in a knot!
Didcot to Wantage, two small little towns,
Just buses connect them, this journey's a clown!
Another little choice to make, I'd got.
From Didcot to Wantage, buses were three,
'Though choosing the route seemed easy to me.
Two short waits, here at the station,
Or a much faster bus at another location,
So off I set to find bus number ā4BBā.
So out game the phone, and straight onto maps,
Not always needed but one of the most useful apps.
A ten minute walk with around five to spare,
As the sky started to dribble I had not a care.
For Iām a fast walker, Iād be there in a snap!
Five minutes had past, half way down Lydalls Road,
When I noticed an issue I shouldāve forebode.
Looking down at the phone and a message appeared,
In this age of technology one of the few that we feared.
My phone had ran out, how could I be such a chode!?
For two hours of trains Iād spent on the web,
And over that time the battery had ebbād.
Now lost in a strange place, no map left to see,
At least I was safe from needing to pee!
Shouldāve took a book, ārāleast used my head.
I kept on, for now remembering the route,
And I still had some time so no need to scoot.
I hoped Iād bump into someone to ask them the way,
And then hope they wouldnāt lead me astray!
Though itās not easy for me as Iām not far off mute!
Hark! Yonder corner getting out of her car,
A woman with baby, shouldnāt be far.
So I headed her way, phone fully out of charge,
Towards this woman who Iāll for now just call Marge.
And asked her whereāfor the bus, but tough luck, no cigar!
She hadnāt a clue so forwards I carried,
Surely just a couple of roads, āleast she didnāt seem harried!
I knew there a left and onto the main road!
As the rains picked up pace and the winds, boy they bellowed!
Hopefully by Didcot Iād not get too tarried!
I think two more to go from this road called Foxhall,
Getting lost had slowed me, itād be too close to call!
And lo I looked up to see the BB4 bus,
To note one little detail Google hadnāt thought to fuss.
For tāwas a school bus, what an error to befall!
So now what to do, I could only wonder,
Stuck in a strange town, what a pig of a blunder!
A short distance onwards, if only in despāration,
Or should I turn back and head for the station?
Iāll try one more corner, maybe a bus stopāll be yonder.
I onwards I went, no point turning back yet,
Iād missed those two buses anyway Iād bet.
So up to the roundābout, and to my surprise,
To the right I could see just over the rise.
A bus stop each side, for hopefully one I could get!
As I got to the stop I check out the sign,
And to my delight, ābus was my way inclineād!
Just ten minutes to wait for the X31!
To Didcot I say unto you, weāre done!
And now were there just one more thing to pine.
With my phone having died and my journey delayed,
Would the intārest of my parents to pick me up fade?
For once Iād make Wantage it was still quite a walk,
Hopefully the shops would distract them, or maybe theyād sit and talk?
Fortānately thirty five minutes later they had not strayed.
And so I was sorted and almost back home,
Iād made it away from the Didcot biome.
Awaiting fat cat Oscar and fry-up for tea,
With bacon awaiting I almost did squee!
Back at the new place, as day turned to gloam.
Looking up out the car too I saw animals dine,
As a red kite pair made chase of a poor passerine.
The larger grabbed it and ripped it apart,
Watching them dismember it was almost an art!
While thinking how my kerfuffle did soon turn out fine.
