Welcome to the new weekly book thread. We all love reading here. I know I sure as hell do. Baaaasically this is to discuss books and stuff again. We used to have a re-occuring book thread but it died.
So I'm bringing it back! It's gonne be pretty simple, I'll tell you about what book I'm reading, and which book I'll read next. Simple stuff.
Also, this is likely gonna be on Fridays, maybe Saturdays if I don't have the time. Sometimes the news room gets hectic. Of course there may be spoilers, I'll put that in bold at the top of each post like so
WARNING, THERE ARE BLOODY SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN SODDING IMAGINARY PERIL.
Like so. Anyway, onwards!
This week I read: Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.
It's a fantastic book in my personal opinion. It's got many a funny moment that kept me entertained for ages, and not once did it fail to amuse me. The characters are quite well established without even requiring that much information. There are a selection of characters, but the two main ones appear to be Crowley and Aziraphale.
These two are a Demon and Angel respectively, and have happily set themselves into human life. Particularly Crowley, who owns an old Bentley where all tapes turn into Queens greatest hits. Which certainly makes for an amusing moment within the car.
The main crux of the book is the Antichrist, and what happens when he grows up. After depositing the antichrist with a group of Satanic nuns, they manage to give him to the wrong person. It makes for an amusing tale as they try to find the real antichrist, and the events that follow after he meets one of the other important characters of the book.
It's also amazingly British, which is bonus point in my taste. It is a little outdated, but holds up to the test of time even now. Despite being set in a time when compact discs don't appear to be a thing.
In fact the ensemble of characters only improve upon the book. Such as Shadwell, who believes himself to have banished a 'Demon' (Actually the angel) by using his bare hand. Then there is Anna Device, a witch and descendant of someone who predicted the whole Antichrist thing, her book plays an important part too.
And of course there is the Antichrist himself. Who grows up as your typical human, and wants to save the whales. He causes Tibetans to dig up gardens, thanks to their apparent myriad of tunnels. And Aliens to question another character on ecology of the planet.
I recommend it to you all!
SPOILERS ARE GONE. ARE YOU DEAD?
Annnnd next I'm reading Collapse
I started this last night, and I'm not really sure what to make of it right now. I'll get back to you next week with info. Now then lovelies, let's discuss, eh? What are you reading and what you planning on reading? I have a reading challenge of 50 books for this year, I need material.
