Well what do you all like when you want something a bit different or as we would say up north to look a bit classy?
I used to be a cocktail bartender so love a well made drink. We know Girlwithnousername is a fan of the French 75, a lovely drink made with either gin or cognac, lemon juice and champagne. Make it with vodka and you have a French 76.
I have four favourite cocktails which I will share with you three are rum based, and the other is a killer.
Daiquiri- Cuban classic, I prefer the way it is made in the Hotel Nacional in Havana. Rum, lime juice, sugar and a dash of maraschino liqueur blended with crushed ice. Many of these were drank in the company of a good cigar.
The Perfect Smoking Barrel- Made in a bar in Huddersfield and is a take on the Manhattan. Havana Club barrel strength, a teaspoon of Laphroaig 10, sugar syrup, a dash of orange bitters and a dash of maraschino liqueur, stirred with ice and poured into a chilled cocktail glass and served with a cocktail cherry.
Royal Mojito- a take on the classic. Use any aged rum you prefer Diplomatico Reserva Exlusiva is my preferred choice. Couple of lime wedges, teaspoon on sugar and mint in the bottom of a glass with a double shot of the rum and muddle. Fill glass with crushed ice and then fill with champagne. Stir gently and add sprig of mint to the top along with a lime wedge.
Death in the Afternoon. Champagne flute, drop a sugar cube in there and follow it with a shot of absinthe, stir until sugar is dissolved and top up with champagne. A lovely but deadly drink.
