The northern winds blew relentlessly, small swords of cold stabbing and slashing at their faces. The men knew of the feeling all too well and it did not bother them anymore. The wind was comforting, if anything a friend to them, compared to what laid on the other side. Their Watch taught them that. Though today's winds were not the frigid companion the men were used to. Instead, it was a roaring onslaught of ice and darkness; a blizzard. The Southern men knew nothing of blizzards and Northern storms and merely assumed it's just as lucky as if it rained in the South. The Northerners were too wise or too superstitious. A bad omen some muttered, danger was looming overhead. Others claimed it was just a sign to remind them their Watch was not meant to be easy. As for the rest of the men, it was just a storm.
Yet, for Ser Bolesby, this was not just a storm. The unknown forces beyond were marching. This was a sign. Winter is coming, and the Wall must stand as vigilant as it ever has to not only defend the realm, but to survive this long night and the many to come.
