About 150-100 years ago our societies advanced greatly in treating illnesses and diseases before it was hijacked and claimed a victory from 'Modern Medicines', eg. oil-derived pharmaceuticals.
My vision upon what actually happened in those days is that the significant results were booked by Natural Medicine and the development of sanitary that resulted in better hygiene. Meanwhile, corruption and Big Oil money shut down the expanding network of schools of Natural Medicines (& home-, osteo- pathy, etc). Their oil-based introduction of Spanish Flue vxx ensured a rapid spread of all kinds of infections and diseases. Note that the medical textbooks started talking about vrsses only as late as in the 80ies.
Modern surgery is in my opinion indeed a great achievement of our epoque. But the oil-based drugs is that part I has my questions about. For a ParSoc it is paramount to find and have a solution for the clinical part. But for the rest, eg. the natural medicines the medieval herb gardens and more natural resources could become an answer towards self-sufficiency. Especially when some oil-based medicines factory happens to get blasted away, or cut from their (complex interrelated) supplies.
