The Orville is great and I love everything they've done with Isaac as a character, wouldn't change a thing...but that doesn't stop me from wondering "how else could it have gone?"
Anyway, this was all just preamble say that I think it would have been really funny if it turned out Isaac (and by extension, all Kaylons) were actually just guys in costumes pretending to be robots. Like, you take the head/helmet off and under it is just some dude, no robotics or head cannons or anything. Literally just how Mark Jackson plays him in the show.
Why? I don't know, maybe they just wanted to see how people would react to a race of sentient robots. Maybe it started out to as a joke but it's too late to back out now. Maybe they are actually all androids but thought the organic life in the universe might find them too "uncanny valley" so they decided just to wear robot costumes to make it less awkward.
I'm not saying this is what they should have done at all, I'm just saying it would have been funny as hell.
