Do they need to raise the humor level?

The biggest complaint I'm hearing about The Orville isn't that there's too much humor, but that the humor is too juvenile or sophomoric. Sure, that's MacFarlane's bread and butter, but he's also capable of doing wickedly good, subtle or complex humor.
Does he need to raise it, maybe less slapstick and more subtle sexual innuendo?
