Welcome to The Old Shillelagh!

This server requires the installation of several important client side mods and configuration files before you can connect. The official mod list is listed in the "Necessary Client Mods" pull-down menu near the top of this page. If you know what you are doing scroll down to the TL;DR at the bottom of this post.

If this is your first time installing mods into minecraft, you should also refer to this guide for a brief tutorial on how to install mods into minecraft.

  1. The first thing you need to do is find your .minecraft folder (if you know where it is skip this step).

In Vista/Windows 7: You can navigate to C:/Users/[Your user name]/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft alternatively you can type %appdata% into the start menu search bar then navigate to /Roaming/.minecraft

  2. The most reliable way to install mods is over a fresh installation of Minecraft. This is not required, but it is highly recommended. If you want to try a fresh install (or ran into a problem after skipping this step) follow these instructions:

2.a Delete everything in the .minecraft folder but the .minecraft/saves, .minecraft/texturepacks and ./minecraft/screenshots folder. This ensures a fresh install while keeping your world saves, screenshots and texturepacks installed.

2.b Launch Minecraft and it will automatically re-download the files you need.

  3. Navigate to your .minecraft/bin folder. Right click on minecraft.jar and open the file in a archive extractor(winzip, 7-zip, etc). you should now see a window full of folders and .class files. Delete the META-INF folder and leave this window open.

  4. Download Modloader (links can be found under "Necessary Client Mods" above this post). Open the modloader .zip archive and drag and drop its contents (folders and .class files) into the minecraft.jar archive window that you opened in step 3 (make sure you don't accidentally drop them into a folder within that archive). Click 'yes' or 'accept' on any warning or confirmation windows that might pop up.

  5. Repeat step 4 for both ModloaderMP and MinecraftForge.

  6. Startup Minecraft. If you reach the main menu: success! you just got though the hardest part of installing these mods. If Minecraft crashed you should go back and repeat step 2. If Minecraft still isn't launching after trying this, contact the mods VIA reddit or IRC and we can provide additional options that will help you get past this step.

  7. If you navigate back to your .minecraft directory, you will notice you now have a "mods" folder. All you need to do now is download the remainder of the mods listed as "Necessary Client Mods" and place them into this folder. The downloads will come as a .zip or .jar, do not extract the .zip's simply place the .zip or .jar into the mods folder. Modloader will take care of the extraction for you.

  8. Once you have all the mods in the mods folder launch Minecraft. You may or may not crash here due to a Block-ID error(either way you NEED TO DO THIS STEP). This needs to be fixed by downloading the custom configuration files: TheOldShillelaghConfig.zip. All you need to do is download the .zip and drag the three folders into your .minecraft directory(buildcraft, redpower, and config). You will receive overwrite warnings, you need to accept all of them. If you didn't get any warnings, you extracted it to the wrong directory.

  9. You're done! connect to the server and start playing!

The TL;DR for advanced users:

  • Extract Modloader ModloaderMP and Minecraftforge into your minecraft.jar, Launch minecraft
  • Exit Minecraft, move all of the necessary mods into the .minecraft/mods folder.
  • drag the configuration folders into your .minecraft directory.
