I just finished watching the newest episodes and came to browse the subreddit and damn, everyone has a bone to pick! Not saying constructive criticism isn't good but it's a little... sad? Midge especially is getting so much flack for just being... Midge.
Personally I'm loving every single one of these episodes, and I don't care if Midge doesn't grow or have an arc or whatever. I actually think it's very realistic.
We're used to seeing these characters all around that learn from their mistakes and become the almost perfect versions of themselves but that just doesn't happen in real life. Which is ok. People don't change as often or as significantly as media likes to portray. People make dumb mistakes and are inconsistent and hypocritical and sabotage themselves all the time. Showing that doesn't seem like bad writing to me. Quite the opposite.
My mental health isn't great lately, and I'm not enjoying things like I normally would, but the past 2 episodes still got laughs out of me and made me walk out lighter than I was when I walked in. I think that's a fucking big thing to accomplish.
My only criticism is that I want more of this show!
