Finished the show for the first time. I’ll cut to the chase and say it was one of the most artful, creative, and emotionally resonant pieces of TV I’ve ever seen (up there with Mad Men imo). Guess that probably won’t be an unpopular opinion on this subreddit.
To start off, I think season 1 of the show is very underrated. Yes, it has its faults but it has a great, ephemeral quality (can’t put my finger exactly on what it is) that the show never quite touches again. Nora’s monologue at the end of the season was amazing.
The second and third season are obviously incredible, don’t have to say much else.
My favorite episodes: Guest (1x06), The Garveys at Their Best (1x09), The Prodigal Son Returns (1x10), Axis Mundi (2x01), Off Ramp (2x03), A Most Powerful Adversary (2x07), I Live Here Now (2x10), Crazy Whitefella Thinking (3x03), It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World (3x05), Certified (3x06), The Most Powerful Man In The World (3x07), The Book of Nora (3x08)… I guess this is about half the episodes in the show…
Favorite characters: Laurie and Matt (polar opposites lol)
(I guess I have to chime in and say that I am of the persuasion that Nora was lying at the end of the show. Maybe that reveals more about me than anything)
To your point about Nora, a big point of the show is the lies we tell ourselves to feel better!
