I write a lot, in fact I love writing. Creative Writing is one of my intended majors, I enter my short stories in competitions all the time, and hope to pay for college all through putting my pen to the to the paper.
But I rarely write fanfics, I like making original content, instead of building on others, and there's rarely any market for fanfics anyhow. But I've been trying my hand at screenwriting (as being a screenwriter is ultimately my goal) and I thought what would be the best pet project for me is to make a screenplay for a Better Avatar movie, as you can see it's largely a rough draft. I'm not afraid of someone stealing my idea, if you guys can make a successful movie out of it I would be enthralled as a die hard avatar fan.
The last Avatar
Backstory:
The setting is hundred or more years after Korra, with the birth of the Earth Kingdom avatar, and High-end technology, this includes displays and futuristic machinery reminiscent of our own.
Our emerging problem is that in the 100 years until this point, the increase of civilization over nature as led to overall destruction of the beautiful asian backdrop that makes up bending, and more so the spirit world. The Earth Avatar attempts to save the spirit world be campaigning politically and actively against the Corporation heads and [insert villain name here]. By not only illegally stopping construction but more so by absorbing the lost and endangered spirits.
The Avatar becomes a villiain. In a tragic accident during a skirmish the avatar kills a bender and is falsely imprisoned for it, this is when he hears of [villain's name] plan to slaughter and end the benders as we know it. From here the avatar uses the avatar state complete his vow of vengeance to destroy all non-benders for their destruction of the spirit world and the future destruction of bending itself.
The avatar line is disrupted. As the avatar state kills more and more it becomes more bloodthirsty, and stronger. Becoming almost a god of death (Here's where spectacular CGI's would come in and such) it takes the leaders of all four elements to bind the avatar away, where our villian sneaks in and with the help of some new age technology manages to mortally wound the Avatar while in Avatar state severely disrupting the avatar line.
Once the avatar is wounded, and all of the connected elemental spirits as well. Bending around the world takes a serious downfall, where most benders cannot even bend at even half the capacity as they once did, and their power quickly dwindling. Our villain takes the wonderful opportunity to throw the leaders of the four elements out of power, and condemn all benders to a future life of hiding from mercilessly efficient high tech machines and robots.
Present:
The new avatar is born to the descendants of the Fire Nation, in a world where the Kingdoms of Earth and Water coexist underground. The Air Nomads are on the constant run, and the Fire Nation is a large sham of its former glory and exists only in concentration camps in Republic City a disgusting polluted metropolis.
The problem is the avatar is born without the ability to do any bending at all, except for energy bending, this includes the ability to take away other bender's bending temporarily and the ability to block chakras, and more importantly a full connection to the spirit world.
Old avatar is reawakened in his cell completely fused with the avatar state, and as powerful as ever and quickly begins to make himself magnanimous in the world scheme following a more intricate plan that would repair the avatar line by killing the new avatar and assuming his powers and connections and defeating his old enemy, our villain, who is getting to the final stages of his destruction of the benders.
Upon their reemergence the thought of an uprising goes about, and the benders find that they're getting their powers back slowly to extents even stronger than ever previously. New characters emerge like the waterbending prodigy known as the water walker or the savior, Korra's grandson, who mentors the new avatar on the ability to take away bending and believes in the new avatar saving the world, Tenzin's great great granddaughter known as the famous Escapist who dreams of a land untouched by machinery for the bending peoples. The self acclaimed princess of the fallen fire nation, the main character's butch and merciless older sister who wants to unite the benders to destroy the nonbending empire and the villain's horrendous creation a mutated earth bending boy who despite all his ails becomes the first bender to bend platinum, the largest weapon against the benders to date.
The new Avatar is faced as always with the difficult task of bringing together unbalanced political and spiritual landscape from the brink of the destruction. While also faced with a difficult decision on his hands, he has to choose whether to resolve to kill the old avatar and the now eternally condemned avatar state, (thereby ending the sacred line, and destroying the only protection for the spirit world and natural order) or assume the avatar state himself which may only lead to propagating the unbalance of power that caused the dark situation in the first place and damning future benders to incident much like this one.
There, really long. But it's the idea in a nutshell, I hope to also expand on this idea in symbolic ways showing the very presence human actions of discrimination (racism, sexism) through benders vs. nonbenders. Politically, with the disillusioned uprising. Spiritually, with the old avatar's god complex. Finally, theatrically by focusing on the new importance given to rarer specialized bendings such as plant bending, sand bending, the emergence of Azula's blue fire, Airbender's new abilities of almost unlimited flight (and a secret forbidden suffocation killing techniques ;) ).
