Why is Pressure Machine so divisive?

So, I was listening to a Springsteen mix on Spotify and West Hills II came on. I loved the she song and was surprised to learned that it was The Killers. I decided to listen to Pressure Machine not knowing what to expect given what I know of The Killers and what I heard on West Hills II. I was completely floored by it. To me, it is a masterwork. But, I’ve come to realize that it’s not universally praised by diehard fans. Why is this?
