[Spoilers S3E7] Exploration of Canadian policy.
Post Body

I am Canadian, and tonight's episode touched on something real that we haven't seen before- a weakness when it comes to foreign, economic and social policy in my country that is a pervasive catch 22.

It's difficult to surmise such a lengthy and complicated subject as it pertains to a dystopian TV show in a reddit post, but in order to play the pascifist, welcoming country means that we have often had to turn a blind eye to injustices on the part of our neighbors, allies and trading partners, chiefly the United States. At times we've had to capitulate to unjust demands and take an undignified and dishonorable route to satisfy them to maintain good relations. The irony is that we've often had to compromise on one core value in our government or society in order to serve another.

In THT, the Canadian government is contemplating conceding one value (protecting human rights and the right to sanctuary) in order to protect another (upholding peace). This is a very real problem my country is constantly mulling over- which one is more important? The fundamental rights of an individual or preventing the brutality of war for millions?

I just thought that this bit of world-building was really cool and realistic.
