Hi /r/thegreatwarchannel, I’m a mod on /r/thegreatwarpowers which is essentially a role-playing game which takes place from the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1950. The point of the game is to see possible changes through history by allowing users to control a nation. Although /r/worldwarpowers previously did this, it is technically our first season and we’re hoping to find some new players interested in ww1. We won’t be starting until January 1st/2nd.
Claims are open now for any and all nations existing in the world in that time. Pick a nation and lead it, or potentially the entire world, down a different path and interact via diplomacy, espionage, or open warfare. Only note I would add is that we try to maintain a relatively high level of realism. If, for example, you decide you want to take the Empire of Japan and turn it into a democratic utopia you would need to have some pretty significant build-up to make it happen.
Many major nations have already been claimed, however you can ask to be a second in command and help them with their claim, or claim a colony. Most of South America is also unclaimed.
Look forward too seeing some new players!
Summary of some events from last season to give you an idea of how things changed:
We recently just reset from our last season. some major alternate history things that developed from the game was Japan allowing the Anglo-Japanese Alliance to expire and instead pursued an alliance with Germany, resulting in an invasion of the Russian Far East and an attempted blockade of the Western treaty ports in China.
Germany attempted to go against the Monroe doctrine and assume protectorate status over Costa Rica nearly leading to war with the United States until the United Kingdom stepped in on the American side.
The United States stayed out of the Great War but instead took its chance to "steal" colonies by purchase from the defeated Central Powers prior to the peace treaty, denying them as gains to the Entente. This obviously caused a rift in US-Entente relations nearly, once again, starting a war over Entente attempts to curb American expansion.
