I'm trying a hair treatment based on suggestions here, will post results!
Post Body

I haven't invested in coconut oil yet, but am using a mixture of argan conditioner, sesame oil, and warm honey. I have fine, damaged hair that has caused the most painful tiny tangles, clumps and dreads. I put it directly on that squirrel's nest, and am sitting with it now. I wrapped my hair up in a towel, and will let it sit for a couple of hours. I'm so pleased that it hasn't dripped one bit! I was thinking it would be melty and drippy all over my face, neck and clothes, but nope! Will post again!

UPDATE #1: I sat with it for ~3 hours. Rinsed it out in the shower (incredibly easy/not sticky) and it felt great. I rinsed with a little more argan conditioner, and the sides of the tangles began easing out well. Out of the shower, I worked carefully on the tangles, and it took a while, but it was exponentially easier to get them out. My hair is now brushed through completely and feels good. Now, it's not dry yet. I believe it will seem rather greasy - the clean kind of greasy :) - in a while, so I may just shampoo as I usually do to get some of that out. I'm also going to trim an inch of the damaged ends - also a tip from this subreddit.
