"Putting myself first" - some tips

I'm finally in a place in my life where I feel stable, so here are mine:

  • Curate, vet, and research your networks. Seeing the bad signs before starting a connection saves time and energy. For new dating and friends, look at how they live. Hard drugs? Gambling? Really bad addictions? Crime? Baby mama/daddy to several? Do not pass go, do not collect $50. If a decent existing friend has fallen on hard times, that's different. Other habits also, are worth noting. Do they follow racist, sexist, or objectifying accounts/celebrities on socials?
  • Learn to say no - politely. If you're saving for a car so you can get a better job, and people keep asking you to big nights out that are expensive, find some other alternative such as free picnics. People generally don't force others, it's up to you to set boundaries and communicate them.
  • Invest in yourself. Educate yourself on how to calculate interest on loans, how interest rates work, depreciation of assets. Read good books to teach yourself how to world works. The topics can be politics, history, sociology, it's endless. If you need a break from dating, have one and spend that time improving yourself and enjoying your own company. Get into that weird hobby that you held off on, because you were worried what others think.
  • Enjoy looking good for yourself, not others, and especially not men. Treat yourself to skincare products, a new hairstyle, a great outfit. Get fit, if that's what you'd been wanting to do. It's not about validation, it's about your own pride for yourself, living in your body.
  • Allow yourself to be who you were born to be. Some people are born to work demanding, high pressure jobs. Some are not. Some marry and raise children, some travel the world all their life with friends. Know who you are and what you can do, and be content with that. Acceptance is key.
