I love this game but I’m struggling

Me and my friend are getting attacked literally every 2-5 mins. Can’t focus on building anything. I craft up my armor only to lose it all in 5 minutes. I’m aware of effigies, red paint and nothing seems to work. Is there anything to do to avoid being attacked this frequently? We’re only on normal difficulty and duetting absolutely slaughtered.
