There is a golden rule in storytelling, especially cinematic. Show, don't tell.
A vivid theme in Lord Grimdarks writing is that history is not kind to ''good guys'', and only the most vicious of bastards get remembered (even then not for ever).
West was my favorite character in the OG trilogy. Yep. Liked him more than your boy Logen. When I'll reread, i'll probably just do Dogman&Furious' chapters.
Point is, for being arguably the most heroic and well known Lord Marshall of his age, he is maybe mentioned a few times after the deal. Half of it because his niece is a dominant POV. Yes I know he has a WHOLE statue to himself. But the commoners probably stopped paying attention after the first few glances and got back to dedicating their lives to The First of The Moneylenders.
I love that over the course of the series Joe has nailed this point to the wall effortlessly, in the background. Without utilizing any ''beautiful'' monologues delivered by sentimental characters. Just facts.
Beautiful. :)
